For many years, Michael was Partner in one of Ireland’s largest law firms where he provided creative tax and commercial solutions for clients. He advises clients on a wide range of corporate and personal taxation issues. He also has unique expertise acting for clients in M&As and other transactions requiring tax planning.
He is a member and former Chairman of the Taxation Committee of the Law Society of Ireland and the Law Society’s representative of the Value Added Tax Subcommittee of TALC (Taxation Advisory and Liaison Committee). He was a founding member of the European VAT Club, a group of lawyers from EC member and other states who meet twice yearly to discuss problems relating to the application of VAT. In addition, Michael is a former Chairman of International Fiscal Association of Ireland (IFA).
Michael is the author of VAT on Property – made simple; a joint author of Stamp Duties for Business and Property and a frequent contributor of articles on tax issues. He has played a leading role in the preparation of the Law Society’s VAT Special Conditions of Sale and Pre-Contract VAT Enquiries.
He has an amazing reputation, particularly for stamp duty. He is active on tax committees and is exceptionally well regarded by sources. He is regarded as a Senior statesman among Irish tax lawyers.
